Zuri Decking Review and Cost 2024

Zuri Decking is a product of Royal Building Solutions, a company that specializes in products like siding, trim and decking. The majority of their lineup consists of Vinyl and PVC-based products, including Zuri Premium Decking, an interesting alternative if you’re not partial to wood decking and not quite sold on composite boards.

What are Zuri Decks made from?

Zuri Premium Decking is made from Cellular Composite PVC. While it shares plenty of similarities with composite and other PVC-based decking, their product is a bit different.

Zuri Decking boards have three layers and are similar to laminate as they have a photo-realistic print that looks like real wood grain on the surface. That print is covered by a layer of co-extruded clear acrylic while the core is made from a PVC substrate.

According to the company, the surface is 30% harder than other non-wood alternatives in the decking world. That means they can handle pets and stains with ease, so you won’t have to worry about sunscreen, wine or BBQ sauce hitting the deck during the summer.

Zuri Decking Review

Zuri Decking Products Colour Options

While Zuri Premium Decking is durable and does an excellent job of mimicking certain species, to say the color options are limited would be an understatement. The company currently has five hues to choose from including three domestic patterns with Pecan, Chestnut and Walnut.

If you prefer something a little more exotic and more in line with the look of Cedar, Brazilia is an option while Weathered Grey is ideal for cottages or rustic homes. Regardless of which color you choose, the company did a great job with grain reproduction and repetition as it does look like wood, even if it won’t feel like it.

UV Resistance

Unless you have a covered deck, your new planks are going to receive a lot of sun. That means fading can be a major issue along with the weather. The company decking was put through extensive UV testing at over 17,000 hours and passed with flying colors.

Zuri Trivance Topcoating plays a large part in that, and it’s safe to say you won’t have to worry about fading with this product. In fact, you’ll get a 25-year Color Fastness warranty, and the product is guaranteed to not shift past five units on the Hunter color scale.

Stain Resistance

One of the big advantages of PVC-based decking compared to regular wood or composites its ability to resist stains. Zuri Premium Decking passed the AAMA 615 stain test with ease as you can from the photo below.

While a picture can be worth a 1,000 words, and it’s great to know your deck can handle mustard or a soda, there are several liquids that can damage this type of material. Most are chemicals you normally wouldn’t have around your deck, but gasoline, isopropyl alcohol, and acetone or fingernail polish remover, will do you deck in rather quickly.

Where to Purchase Zuri Premium Decking

As with many specialty products, you won’t be able to stroll into Lowes or Home Depot to buy Zuri Premium Decking. You may luck up and find a local hardware store with some samples in stock, but the best place to purchase Zuri is through a distributor, dealer or contractor.

If you’re interested in Zuri Decking, you’ll want to use the “Locate Our Products” feature on their official site. It will help you hone in on the style you’re looking for or a dealer nearby. While we did track down a few stores that accept online orders, this is one of the more difficult products to find quickly or order online.

Zuri Decking Cost

To get accurate pricing for your project, you’ll need to call for a quote from your local distributor or find a contractor. We did find a few examples of their pricing, however, which you can find in the table below.

Most colors have a similar price point whether they are solid or grooved boards, but you may experience some variance in both of those areas depending on the retailer.

Zuri Decking Pros, Cons and Ratings

Zuri isn’t one of the more well-known names in the decking world, but they’ve produced a solid product with their Premium decking line. While limited, their shades are suitable for almost any taste, so you’ll just need to check on availability before settling on a color and starting your project.

Pros: This decking is resilient against stains and UV rays along with scratches and other mishaps that can damage a wooden or composite deck. It also meets the ADA requirements for ramps, so slippage isn’t an issue, and the 25-year color fastness warranty is also a nice touch.

Cons: One drawback to Zuri decking is the price. It’s more expensive than other styles due to its composition, but also costs more than PVC decking from TimberTech, Fiberon, and other brands. With only one series, your options are limited as well.

FAQs

Q: What types of mats are safe for Zuri decking?

A: Natural woven materials are safe, but you will want to stay away from anything that contains rubber or vinyl. That includes mats backed with it, along with plastic tarps, latex mats and things like pool toys.

Q: Can square trim caps be used with grooved Zuri deck boards?

A: Yes, just refer to the installation manual and be sure to face-fasten the first board that meets the cap.

A: There is paint that matches all of the shades currently offered by Zuri with Chestnut, Brazilia, Walnut, Pecan, and Weathered Gray.

Q: Should I open and work through multiple packs of decking for variance?

A: No. Zuri decking is packaged with the grain pattern in mind during the installation process, so the recommend that you only work through the first unit before moving on to the next one.

Q: Can Zuri decking be installed during the winter or fall?

A: The company recommends that you install their decking when temperatures at least 40°f or more, otherwise you will have trouble with glue and end coats.

A: That depends on the temperature change, but you should leave at least 1/8” between each board or any other part of the structure. It is also important to remember these planks expand lengthwise.

A: No. The company’s products are not rated or approved for this type of installation.

Q: What is the required joist spacing for Zuri decks?

A: For residential use, 16” on-center, but you will want to go with 12” for commercial installations or if you prefer a more stiff, rigid decking underfoot.
